Description
Calcium iodate (CAS 7789-80-2, EC 232-191-3, formula Ca(IO3)2) is an inorganic calcium salt of iodic acid, also referenced under the trade designations Laurarite and Autarite. It carries no assigned E-code for food use in the EU and is commercially available at reagent grade (98% purity).
In animal feed and agricultural applications, calcium iodate serves as a controlled iodine source, releasing iodate ions that support thyroid function in livestock at regulated dosage levels. In personal care formulations, it functions as an antimicrobial agent and skin conditioner by generating mild oxidative activity that inhibits microbial growth. It also acts as a catalyst in select oxidation reactions within chemical processing.
Calcium iodate is supplied as a dry powder conforming to reagent-grade specifications and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Procurement teams should verify compliance with FCC or Ph.Eur. monographs depending on the intended application. Standard packaging formats include multi-layer bags and fibre drums.
