Calcium l-lactate

Calcium L-lactate (CAS 28305-25-1) is the calcium salt of L-lactic acid, commercially available as calcium dilactate or calcium lactate pentahydrate. It carries no E-number designation in the EU but is recognised under HS code 29181100 for customs classification purposes.

In food and pharmaceutical manufacturing, calcium L-lactate serves as a calcium fortification agent and pH buffer, releasing calcium ions gradually in aqueous systems to stabilise emulsions and control acidity. In oral pharmaceutical formulations, it functions as a bioavailable calcium source with lower gastrointestinal irritation compared to calcium chloride.

Calcium L-lactate is supplied in food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade forms, with the latter conforming to Ph.Eur. and FCC monograph specifications. The compound is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU import and use. Packaging typically ranges from 25 kg bags to bulk quantities depending on grade and application.
