Description

Calcium lactate (CAS 814-80-2) is the calcium salt of lactic acid, commercially known under trade names including Tokal, Calphosan, and Pationic 1240. It serves as a source of bioavailable calcium ions and functions as a mild organic acid salt across food, pharmaceutical, and personal care applications.

In food manufacturing, calcium lactate acts as a pH buffer and firming agent, stabilising cell wall structure in processed fruits and vegetables by cross-linking pectin. In pharmaceutical formulations, it delivers calcium supplementation with higher solubility than carbonate salts, and in topical cosmetics it functions as a skin conditioner by supporting the natural moisturising factor.

Calcium lactate is available in food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade forms, with quality standards referenced under FCC and Ph.Eur. monographs. It is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU supply. Typical packaging includes 25 kg bags, with bulk options available depending on supplier.
