Description

Calcium Lactate Pentahydrate (CAS 5743-47-5) is the calcium salt of lactic acid in its pentahydrate crystalline form, commercially available under trade names such as Puracal DC. It is also referred to as L-Calcium Lactate or Calcium L-Lactate Hydrate and carries the molecular formula C3H6O3.1/2Ca.5/2H2O.

In food manufacturing, it functions as a firming agent and calcium fortifier in fresh-cut produce and dairy products, where its high water solubility enables rapid calcium ion release without imparting bitter off-notes. In pharmaceutical solid dosage forms, it serves as a bioavailable calcium source and tablet excipient, supporting mineral supplementation with predictable dissolution behaviour.

Calcium Lactate Pentahydrate is available in food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade forms meeting FCC and Ph.Eur. (Calcii Lactas Pentahydricus) specifications, and is registered under REACH (EC 611-530-2). It is supplied as a white powder, typically in 25 kg bags or bulk quantities depending on grade requirements.
