Description
Calcium nitrite (CAS 13780-06-8) is an inorganic calcium salt supplied as an aqueous solution or dry powder, commercially available under trade names including DCI, DCI-S, Daraset, and CANI 30. It carries no E-code designation and is not approved for food applications.
In reinforced concrete, calcium nitrite acts as an anodic corrosion inhibitor by oxidising ferrous ions at the steel surface, forming a stable iron oxide passivation layer that resists chloride-induced attack. It is also used in mining and metals processing as a set accelerator in cementitious grouts and as an intermediate in nitrous acid chemistry.
Calcium nitrite is supplied in compliance with REACH regulations and is available in both liquid (typically 30% aqueous solution) and solid grades to suit different dosing systems. Standard packaging includes IBC containers and bulk tankers for liquid grades, with technical-grade material available for construction applications.
