Description
Calcium sulfate (CAS 7778-18-9, formula CaSO4) is an inorganic mineral salt available under trade names including Crysalba, Thiolite, Drierite, and anhydrite. It carries EC number 231-900-3 and is distributed in both anhydrous and dihydrate forms across industrial and regulated markets.
In food and pharmaceutical manufacturing, calcium sulfate functions as a firming agent and pH stabilizer, regulating acidity in tofu production and tablet formulation. In construction, the dihydrate form undergoes controlled dehydration to produce plaster binders, while in agriculture it acts as a soil amendment by displacing sodium ions and improving structure in saline soils.
Calcium sulfate is supplied in food-grade (FCC), pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur.), and technical-grade specifications, all subject to REACH registration. It carries no E-code designation in the EU. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags and bulk quantities, with grades selected according to application-specific purity and particle size requirements.
