Calcium thioglycolate trihydrate

Calcium thioglycolate trihydrate (CAS 65208-41-5, EC 613-757-2) is the calcium salt of thioglycolic acid in its trihydrate form, also known by the common name Calciumthioglykolat-Trihydrat. It carries no assigned E-code and is registered under REACH for supply within the European Economic Area.

In depilatory formulations, it cleaves disulfide bonds in keratin, breaking down hair structure at the follicle level to enable chemical hair removal without mechanical action. It also functions as a surface modifier in cosmetic and pharmaceutical systems, where its thiol chemistry supports controlled interaction with protein-based substrates and improves wetting behaviour on treated surfaces.
