(+)-Camphor

(+)-Camphor (CAS 464-49-3, EC 207-355-2) is a naturally derived bicyclic ketone obtained primarily from the wood of Cinnamomum camphora. It is commercially known as d-Camphor, D-Camphor, or Camphora and carries no assigned E-code. Its molecular formula is C10H16O.

In personal care formulations, camphor acts as a cooling and counterirritant agent in topical products such as balms and liniments by activating cold-sensitive receptors in the skin. As a flavorant in food and pharmaceutical applications, it contributes a characteristic sharp, minty note at controlled concentrations, functioning as a flavoring and acidulant component.
