Description
Carbon black (CAS 1333-86-4, EC 215-609-9) is a form of paracrystalline carbon produced by incomplete combustion or thermal decomposition of hydrocarbons. It is commercially known under designations such as TOC, TM30, UCET, and WYEX, and is also referred to industrially as soot or furnace black.
In rubber and tire manufacturing, carbon black reinforces polymer matrices by forming covalent and physical bonds with elastomer chains, significantly increasing tensile strength and abrasion resistance. In coatings and plastics, it functions as a UV stabilizer and antioxidant by absorbing radiation and scavenging free radicals, extending the service life of finished products.
Carbon black is supplied in powder and pelletized grades, with particle size and structure varying by application grade. It falls under REACH regulation and requires an up-to-date Safety Data Sheet for EU procurement. Packaging is typically available in multi-wall paper bags, big bags, or bulk tanker delivery depending on grade and volume.
