Description

Cerium Octoate (CAS 7435-02-1) is an organometallic cerium salt derived from 2-ethylhexanoic acid, also known as cerium caprylate, cerium octanoate, and commercially as Hex-Cem 12 Cerium. It belongs to the metal carboxylate family and functions as a source of reactive cerium ions in organic media.

In alkyd and oxidative-cure coatings, cerium octoate acts as a through-cure drier, accelerating oxygen-initiated crosslinking within the paint film rather than only at the surface. In polymer stabilisation, it scavenges peroxide radicals to retard thermal and UV-induced degradation. It is also used as a catalyst precursor in cerium oxide deposition processes relevant to mining and metals applications.

Cerium octoate is supplied as an oil-soluble liquid concentrate, typically in hydrocarbon or mineral spirit carrier solvents, at varying cerium metal content grades. It falls under REACH registration requirements for EU supply. Packaging is available in drums and intermediate bulk containers depending on order volume.
