Chlorophyll

Chlorophyll (CAS 1406-65-1, EC 215-800-7) is a naturally derived green pigment extracted from plant material, approved in the EU as food colorant E140 (E140i for the pure chlorophyll fraction). It is also referenced under the trade designations Chromule and C.I. 1956, and commonly listed as chlorofyl in multilingual documentation.

In food manufacturing, chlorophyll imparts green coloration to products such as confectionery, beverages, and dairy alternatives by absorbing red and blue light wavelengths. In personal care formulations, it functions as a colorant in creams and oral care products, where its natural origin supports clean-label positioning with formulators seeking plant-based pigment sources.

Chlorophyll is supplied in compliance with EU food additive regulation EC 1333/2008 under E140i and is subject to REACH registration requirements for industrial applications. It is available in liquid and powder grades suited to aqueous or oil-based systems, with documentation packages covering food-grade and cosmetic-grade specifications on request.
