Cholecalciferol

Cholecalciferol (CAS 67-97-0) is the naturally occurring form of vitamin D3, synthesised in skin upon UV exposure and commercially produced from lanolin-derived 7-dehydrocholesterol. It is also known under the trade names Calciol, Deparal, and Trivitan, and carries no assigned E-code for direct food additive use in the EU.

In personal care formulations, cholecalciferol functions as a skin conditioner by binding to keratinocyte receptors and supporting cellular differentiation, improving barrier integrity. In pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications, it acts as an emulsion stabiliser, helping maintain uniform dispersion of lipid-phase components in oral and topical delivery systems. It also serves as a heat stabiliser in certain fortified food matrices.
