Description
Citronellal (CAS 106-23-0) is a naturally occurring monoterpene aldehyde found in citronella, eucalyptus, and lemon-scented plants. It is commercially known under trade names including Rhodinal and carries the FEMA designation 2307. No E-code applies to this ingredient.
In fragrance formulation, citronellal contributes a fresh, lemon-rose character and serves as a direct precursor to isopulegol and menthol through acid-catalyzed cyclization. In food applications, it functions as a flavorant at controlled concentrations to deliver citrus and herbal notes in beverages, confectionery, and dairy products.
Citronellal is supplied as a clear light yellow liquid and is available in food-grade and fragrance-grade specifications aligned with FCC and IFRA guidelines. It falls under REACH regulation (EC 203-376-6) and is classified under HS code 29121900. Typical packaging includes drums and IBCs for bulk procurement.
