Cobalamin

Cobalamin (CAS 13408-78-1), commonly abbreviated as Cbl or CN-Cbl and sold under trade names including Cytacon and Cytamen, is a cobalt-containing member of the B-vitamin group. It carries no assigned E-code and is identified under EC number 236-500-2 with the molecular formula C62H88CoN13O14P.

In pharmaceutical formulations, cobalamin is incorporated into injectable and oral preparations targeting B12 deficiency, where the cobalt-corrin ring structure enables enzymatic cofactor activity in methionine synthesis and DNA regulation. In animal feed and premix production, it supports neurological development and red blood cell formation in livestock at precisely controlled dosage levels.

Cobalamin is supplied in pharmaceutical-grade form meeting Ph.Eur. and USP monograph specifications, as well as food-grade material compliant with FCC standards. It is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. Packaging is typically available in amber glass or light-protected containers to prevent photodegradation during storage and transit.
