Description

Cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) is a zwitterionic surfactant derived from coconut oil, commercially available under trade names including Mirataine CB and Cadg, and also referred to as cocoyl amide propylbetaine or N-(3-cocoamidopropyl)-betaine. It carries no assigned E-code. CAS 86438-79-1 covers the technical-grade material used across industrial and personal care applications.

In personal care formulations, CAPB functions as a secondary surfactant that reduces the irritation potential of primary anionic surfactants while contributing foam volume and stability in shampoos and body washes. In textile and leather processing, it acts as an emulsifier and antistatic agent, improving fibre wettability and dye penetration during wet processing stages.

CAPB is supplied as a clear aqueous solution, typically at 30% active content. The material falls under REACH registration requirements for EU supply and is compatible with cosmetic formulations governed by EC Regulation 1223/2009. Industrial and cosmetic grades are available, with packaging options ranging from drums to IBC containers.
