Description

Coenzyme Q10 (CAS 303-98-0), also known as CoQ10, ubiquinone, or simply Q10, is a naturally occurring fat-soluble compound found in the mitochondria of living cells. It carries no assigned E-code. It functions as a redox-active molecule, cycling between oxidised and reduced forms to transfer electrons within metabolic pathways.

In cosmetic formulations, CoQ10 acts as a lipid-phase antioxidant, neutralising free radicals in skin cell membranes and slowing oxidative degradation of emulsion systems. In pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications, it is incorporated into softgel capsules and oral supplements where its electron-carrier activity supports cellular energy metabolism at a mitochondrial level.

Coenzyme Q10 is supplied as a yellow-orange crystalline powder in cosmetic and food-grade specifications, with pharmaceutical grades meeting Ph.Eur. and USP monograph requirements. The substance is registered under REACH and is commercially available in kilogram quantities up to bulk drum formats for industrial procurement.
