Copper(ii) methanesulfonate

Copper(II) methanesulfonate, also known as cupric methanesulfonate or Cu-MSA (CAS 54253-62-2, EC 405-400-2), is an inorganic copper salt formed from copper and methanesulfonic acid. It carries no E-code designation and is distinct from copper sulfate in its higher solubility and lower corrosivity profile.

In electronics manufacturing, Cu-MSA serves as the copper source in acid plating baths, where the methanesulfonate anion supports high current density deposition with improved throwing power and grain uniformity. In mining and metalworking, it functions as a catalyst and surface-active agent in leaching and metal-finishing processes, where it accelerates copper ion transfer at treated surfaces.

Copper(II) methanesulfonate is supplied as a technical-grade material and falls under REACH registration requirements for EU procurement.
