Description

Copper(II) oxide (CAS 1317-38-0) is an inorganic compound of copper and oxygen, supplied as a black fine powder. It is also known by the trade names Banacobru OL and Copper Brown, and listed under C.I. 77403 in the Colour Index. It carries no E-code designation.

In antimicrobial textile and leather treatments, copper(II) oxide releases copper ions that disrupt microbial cell membranes, inhibiting bacterial and fungal growth on treated surfaces. In personal care formulations, it functions as a skin-conditioning colorant, contributing pigmentation while supporting barrier protection. It is also used as a pigment binder in construction coatings and printing inks.

Copper(II) oxide is available in technical and high-purity grades and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU supply. Procurement quantities are typically offered in 25 kg bags or bulk formats. Buyers should verify supplier SDS documentation for compliance with CLP classification obligations prior to import or formulation use.
