Description
Copper Pyrithione (CAS 14915-37-8) is an organometallic biocide also known commercially as Copper Omadine, OM 1562, and NSC 290408. It is the copper salt of pyrithione, combining a metal ion with a sulfur-nitrogen ligand to deliver broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity.
In antifouling and marine coatings, Copper Pyrithione disrupts membrane transport in algae, bacteria, and fungi, preventing biofilm formation on submerged surfaces. It is also applied in textile and leather processing as a preservative against mold and mildew, and functions as a foam suppressant in water treatment formulations where microbial control is simultaneously required.
Copper Pyrithione is supplied as a powder and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU.
