Copper sulfate

Copper sulfate (CAS 7758-98-7, EC 231-847-6) is an inorganic copper salt commercially known as blue vitriol or blue stone, with the formula CuSO4. It carries no E-code designation and is supplied in anhydrous and pentahydrate forms. The pentahydrate is the standard commercial grade encountered across industrial supply chains.

In water treatment, copper sulfate acts as an algaecide by releasing cupric ions that disrupt algal cell membranes at concentrations as low as 0.1 ppm. In agriculture, it functions as a fungicide and soil amendment, correcting copper deficiencies while inhibiting fungal spore germination. The textile and leather industries use it as a mordant, fixing dyes to fiber through ionic bonding with metal-complexing colorants.

Copper sulfate is available in technical, feed, and agricultural grades, with pentahydrate purity typically ranging from 98% to 99.5%. It is registered under REACH and complies with relevant EU regulations for agricultural and industrial use. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags and 1000 kg big bags.
