β-Cryptoxanthin (CAS 472-70-8, E161c) is a naturally occurring carotenoid pigment and provitamin A compound, also referred to as Cryptoxanthol or Kryptoxanthin. It is classified under EC 200-001-8 with the molecular formula C40H56O and carries the European food additive designation E 161c.

In food and beverage formulations, β-Cryptoxanthin functions as an antioxidant by quenching reactive oxygen species, while simultaneously contributing orange-red colouration to products such as juices and supplements. In cosmetic formulations, it is incorporated into skincare products where its antioxidant activity supports protection against oxidative stress at the cellular level.
