Description

Beta-Cyclodextrin (CAS 7585-39-9) is a cyclic oligosaccharide composed of seven glucose units, produced by enzymatic conversion of starch. Also known as Betadex, beta-CD, and approved as food additive E459, it forms a truncated cone-shaped molecular cavity capable of encapsulating hydrophobic guest molecules.

In pharmaceutical formulations, beta-CD improves the solubility and bioavailability of poorly water-soluble active ingredients by forming inclusion complexes within its hydrophobic cavity. In personal care, it functions as a chelator and skin conditioner by binding metal ions and encapsulating fragrance compounds, extending their controlled release. Food manufacturers use it to stabilise sensitive flavour compounds against oxidation and volatilisation.

Beta-Cyclodextrin is supplied as a white powder in food-grade (E459, FCC), pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur., USP/NF), and technical grades. It is a registered substance under REACH. Standard packaging includes 25 kg fibre drums, with bulk options available on request.
