Description

D-Glucosamine (CAS 3416-24-8), also known as Chitosamine or 2-Aminoglucose, is a naturally occurring amino monosaccharide derived primarily from chitin. It carries no assigned E-code and is commercially available as the free base or as hydrochloride and sulfate salts depending on application requirements.

In personal care formulations, D-Glucosamine functions as a skin conditioner and humectant by binding water molecules within the stratum corneum, supporting moisture retention. In pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications, it serves as a precursor to glycosaminoglycans, making it a documented active ingredient in joint health supplements and topical skin-repair products.

D-Glucosamine is supplied in solid crystalline form and sourced to food-grade (FCC) and pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur.) standards depending on end-use requirements. It falls under REACH registration obligations within the EU. Typical packaging formats include fiber drums and multi-layer bags suited to bulk procurement volumes.
