Description

D-(-)-Tartaric Acid (CAS 147-71-7) is the unnatural, non-wine-derived enantiomer of tartaric acid, also referred to as D-Tartaric acid, l-Tartaric acid, or (-)-Tartaric acid. Unlike the more common L-(+) form, it is produced synthetically and carries no E-number designation under EU food additive regulations.

In pharmaceutical manufacturing, D-(-)-Tartaric acid serves as a chiral resolving agent, separating racemic mixtures into individual enantiomers for active ingredient synthesis. In personal care formulations, it functions as a pH buffer and chelating agent, binding metal ions that would otherwise catalyse oxidative degradation of sensitive actives.

This material is available in crystalline and crystalline powder form, with grades conforming to Ph.Eur. and FCC standards depending on the intended application. It falls under REACH regulation and is classified under HS code 29181200. Procurement teams should confirm enantiomeric purity specifications directly with our technical team prior to ordering.
