Description

Decanal (CAS 112-31-2), also known as n-Decanal, 1-Decanal, and FEMA 2362, is a naturally occurring aliphatic aldehyde found in citrus peel oils, coriander, and lemongrass. It carries no assigned E-code and is identified under EC number 203-957-4 with molecular formula C10H20O.

In flavour and fragrance applications, Decanal contributes a fresh, fatty-citrus character to perfumes and food systems at concentrations typically below 10 ppm. In plastics and polymer processing, it functions as a heat stabiliser by scavenging free radicals generated during thermal degradation. Personal care formulators also incorporate it as an emollient and fragrance fixative in skin and hair products.

Decanal is supplied in compliance with REACH regulations and is available in FCC-grade for food and flavour use. Standard packaging includes drums and IBCs for bulk procurement. Suppliers should confirm purity specifications, typically 98% minimum, and provide a current Safety Data Sheet and Certificate of Analysis.
