Description

Dehydracetic Acid (CAS 520-45-6), commonly abbreviated as DHAA and also known as Dehydroacetic Acid or Dehydranone, is a synthetic organic acid belonging to the pyranone family. It carries no assigned E-number for direct food use in the EU, though its sodium salt (sodium dehydroacetate, E266) is approved as a food preservative.

In personal care formulations, DHAA inhibits fungal and bacterial growth by disrupting cellular enzyme activity, making it effective in rinse-off and leave-on products at concentrations typically below 0.6%. In food-contact and pharmaceutical applications, it functions as an antimicrobial preservative and antioxidant stabilizer, protecting fats and active ingredients from oxidative degradation.

This material is supplied as a fine crystalline powder in food-grade and cosmetic-grade specifications, compliant with FCC and relevant REACH registration requirements. Standard packaging includes 25 kg fiber drums. Buyers should confirm grade suitability against current EU cosmetics regulation (EC 1223/2009) and applicable pharmacopeial standards.
