Description
Di-n-octyl phthalate (DOP) is a phthalate ester plasticizer supplied as an oily liquid, with CAS number 117-84-0 and EC number 204-214-7. It is commercially available under trade names including Dinopol NOP, Vinycizer 85, and Dicapryl Phthalate. No E-code designation applies to this substance.
In PVC and polymer formulations, DOP functions by intercalating between polymer chains, reducing intermolecular forces and lowering the glass transition temperature to improve flexibility. In personal care applications, it acts as an emollient and skin conditioner, forming a barrier that reduces transepidermal water loss. It also provides secondary UV-stabilising properties in film and coating systems.
Di-n-octyl phthalate is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Union, and procurement should confirm current SVHC status and any applicable authorisation conditions before use. It is typically supplied in drums or IBC containers. Buyers should request a current SDS and certificate of analysis confirming purity grade.
