Description
Di-tert-butyl dicarbonate, commonly known as Boc anhydride, (Boc)2O, DIBOC, or DBDC (CAS 24424-99-5), is an anhydrous carbonylating reagent used primarily in organic synthesis. It carries no assigned E-code. It is classified as a pharmaceutical intermediate under HS code 29209010.
In peptide and API synthesis, Boc anhydride introduces the tert-butoxycarbonyl protecting group onto amine functions, blocking reactivity during multi-step reactions and allowing selective deprotection under mild acid conditions. It also acts as an antimicrobial agent and preservative in formulated systems by disrupting microbial membrane integrity at controlled concentrations.
Supplied in pharmaceutical and technical grades as a low-melting crystalline solid, this product is handled under REACH registration requirements applicable to EU commerce. Packaging is available in standard laboratory and bulk industrial formats. Buyers should confirm grade-specific certificates of analysis for compliance with Ph.Eur. or in-house quality standards.
