Description
Diacetone acrylamide (DAA, CAS 2873-97-4) is a bifunctional acrylamide monomer carrying a reactive ketone group alongside a polymerisable vinyl group. Also referenced as NSC 130565 and commercialised under names such as Kohsylmer DAAM, it carries no assigned E-code and is classified under HS code 29241990.
In waterborne coatings and adhesives, DAA is copolymerised into latex systems and subsequently crosslinked with adipic acid dihydrazide, where the ketone-hydrazide reaction builds a covalent network that improves film hardness, solvent resistance, and block resistance at ambient temperature. In textile and paper finishing, the same crosslinking mechanism anchors functional polymers to fibre surfaces, improving wet strength and durability.
DAA is supplied as a white to cream crystalline powder or flakes and is subject to REACH registration requirements for EU supply. Procurement teams should confirm grade specification, inhibitor content, and residual monomer limits with the supplier prior to ordering, particularly for personal care or food-contact applications.
