Description
Dibutyl sebacate (DBS) is a diester plasticizer derived from sebacic acid and n-butanol, commercially known under trade names including Staflex DBS, Kodaflex DBS, and PX 404. It carries no E-code designation and is registered under CAS 109-43-3 and EC 203-672-5.
In PVC and cellulosic polymer formulations, DBS functions as a primary plasticizer, reducing glass transition temperature and improving low-temperature flexibility without migrating rapidly from the matrix. In food-contact and cosmetic applications, it serves as an emollient and fixative, slowing the evaporation of fragrance compounds and conditioning skin barrier lipids.
DBS is available in technical and food-grade specifications, with food-grade material conforming to FCC standards and REACH registration covering industrial supply within the EU. It is supplied in bulk liquid format and intermediate IBCs. Procurement teams should confirm grade suitability against intended application and applicable regional food-contact regulations.
