Description

Dibutyltin oxide (DBTO, CAS 818-08-6) is an organotin compound used as a catalyst and catalyst precursor in industrial synthesis. It is commercially available under trade names including Fascat 4201, Tegokat 248, Neostann U 300, Fomrez SUL-11A, and Dibutyloxotin.

In polyester and alkyd resin production, DBTO accelerates esterification and transesterification reactions by activating carbonyl groups toward nucleophilic attack. It also functions as a curing catalyst in moisture-cure silicone and polyurethane sealant systems, where it promotes cross-linking at ambient temperature without requiring elevated heat input.

DBTO is supplied as a technical-grade powder and is subject to REACH regulation under EU rules governing organotin compounds, including restrictions on certain end-use applications. Procurement teams should confirm SVHC status and SDS documentation prior to ordering. Packaging formats typically include fibre drums and multi-wall bags for bulk quantities.
