Dicyandiamide

Dicyandiamide (CAS 461-58-5), also known as DCD, cyanoguanidine, or dicyanodiamide, is a nitrogen-rich organic compound with the molecular formula C2H4N4. It carries no E-code designation and is classified under HS code 29262000. It is commercially available as a crystalline white powder.

In epoxy resin systems, DCD functions as a latent hardener, remaining inactive at ambient temperatures and initiating cross-linking only when heated above 150°C, which extends shelf life of pre-mixed formulations. It is also used in textile finishing to fix dyes and improve crease resistance, and in paper manufacturing as a wet-strength resin intermediate.
