Description

Diethylene glycol (CAS 111-46-6), also known as DEG, Dicol, Diglycol, and Deactivator E, is a hygroscopic diol solvent produced as a co-product of ethylene oxide hydration. It carries no assigned E-code and is classified under HS code 29094100.

In polyurethane and unsaturated polyester production, DEG acts as a chain extender and plasticizer, lowering glass transition temperatures and improving flexibility in the final polymer matrix. In textile processing, it functions as a humectant and carrier solvent, controlling moisture retention in fibre finishing baths and enabling uniform dye penetration.

DEG is available in technical and industrial grades, supplied in bulk, IBC, and drum formats. It is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU and must comply with applicable supplier safety data sheet obligations under CLP. Buyers should confirm grade specification against intended end-use prior to procurement.
