Description

Diethylethanolamine (CAS 100-37-8), commonly abbreviated as DEAE or DIETHYLAMINOETHANOL, is a tertiary aliphatic amine with the molecular formula C6H15NO. It carries no assigned E-code and is supplied as a colourless liquid under standard conditions.

In water treatment and metalworking fluids, DEAE functions as a pH buffer and corrosion inhibitor by neutralising acidic species and forming protective complexes on metal surfaces. In coatings and adhesive formulations, it acts as an emulsifier and neutralising agent for resin systems, improving dispersion stability and film formation.

DEAE is available in technical and pharmaceutical-grade forms and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU (EC 202-845-2, HS code 29221985). Procurement teams should confirm grade suitability against Ph.Eur. or FCC specifications depending on end-use. Standard packaging includes IBC containers and drums.
