Description

Dimethyl carbonate (CAS 616-38-6) is an organic carbonate ester, also known by the abbreviations DMC and trade designations S 100 and AK 100. It carries no assigned E-code and is registered under EC number 210-478-4 with the molecular formula C3H6O3.

In pharmaceutical manufacturing, DMC functions as a methylating agent and reactive solvent, transferring methyl groups to active intermediates under mild conditions. In food and beverage processing, it acts as a cold sterilant, disrupting microbial enzyme activity at low concentrations without leaving residual off-flavours. It also serves as a low-toxicity solvent carrier in printing inks and polymer coatings.

Dimethyl carbonate is supplied in pharmaceutical and technical grades, with food-contact material complying with relevant FCC specifications and REACH registration requirements. Standard packaging includes drums and IBC containers, with documentation available to support EU regulatory submissions and supplier qualification audits.
