Description

Dimethyl sulfone, also known as MSM (methylsulfonylmethane), is an organosulfur compound registered under CAS 67-71-0 and EC 200-665-9. It is commercially available under trade names including Lignisul MSM and NSC 63345, and is commonly abbreviated as (CH3)2SO2 or methylsulphone.

In pharmaceutical and nutraceutical formulations, MSM serves as a bioavailable source of dietary sulfur, supporting connective tissue synthesis and acting as an antioxidant by scavenging reactive oxygen species. In personal care applications, it is incorporated into topical products where its sulfur content is intended to support keratin structure in skin and hair formulations.

Dimethyl sulfone is supplied in pharmaceutical and food-grade specifications, meeting Ph.Eur. and FCC standards where applicable, and is fully registered under REACH. It is available as a crystalline powder in a range of packaging formats suited to industrial procurement. No E-code designation applies to this substance.
