Description

Dimethyldibenzylidene sorbitol (DMDBS) is a sorbitol-based acetal compound registered under CAS 135861-56-2 and EC 603-934-2. It is commercially available under trade names including Millad 3988 and Millad 3988i. No E-code designation applies to this substance.

In polypropylene processing, DMDBS functions as a nucleating and clarifying agent, accelerating crystallisation to produce finer spherulite structures that increase optical clarity and stiffness. It also serves as a rheology modifier in gel systems and coatings, forming hydrogen-bonded fibrillar networks that control flow behaviour at low concentrations.

DMDBS is supplied as a white to off-white solid and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the European Economic Area. Procurement teams should confirm grade suitability against application-specific standards, particularly for food-contact packaging end uses where relevant EU migration regulations apply. Standard packaging formats vary by supplier volume tier.
