Description

Dioctyl carbonate (CAS 1680-31-5), also known as dicaprylyl carbonate and sold under trade names such as Cetiol CC and Cetiol DD, is a carbonic acid diester derived from caprylic alcohol. It carries no assigned E-code and is identified under EC number 605-498-9 with the molecular formula C17H34O3.

In personal care formulations, dicaprylyl carbonate functions as a lightweight emollient carrier that reduces the greasy feel of oils while improving active ingredient spreadability on skin. In coatings and adhesive systems, it acts as a coalescing solvent and plasticiser, lowering film-formation temperature and improving substrate adhesion without contributing to VOC load in compliant formulations.

Dioctyl carbonate is supplied as a cosmetic-grade liquid and falls under REACH registration requirements for EU market supply. It is available in standard drum and IBC packaging formats. Buyers should confirm grade specification against intended application, particularly where cosmetic or industrial coating compliance is required.
