Description

Dipicolinic acid (DPAc, 2,6-Dicarboxypyridine; CAS 499-83-2) is a naturally occurring pyridine dicarboxylic acid found in bacterial endospores. It carries no assigned E-code. The compound is commercially produced as a white crystalline powder with molecular formula C7H5NO4.

In personal care formulations, DPAc functions as a skin conditioner and chelation-assisted preservative, disrupting microbial metal-dependent enzyme activity to extend product shelf life. In food applications, it acts as a flavorant and acidulant, contributing mild tartness. It also serves as a coordination catalyst in select organic synthesis processes.

DPAc is supplied in technical and high-purity grades suitable for cosmetic and food-contact applications, with compliance documentation available under REACH (EC 207-894-3). It is classified under HS code 29333999 for EU customs purposes. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags or drums; smaller research quantities are available on request.
