Description

Dipotassium EDTA (CAS 2001-94-7), also known as EDTA-2K, dipotassium edetate, or Chelaplex II, is a dipotassium salt of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid. It functions as a chelating agent, binding divalent and trivalent metal ions such as calcium, magnesium, and iron through coordination chemistry.

In water treatment, EDTA-2K sequesters hardness ions to prevent scale formation in industrial cooling and boiler systems. In personal care formulations, it deactivates trace metals that would otherwise catalyse oxidative degradation of active ingredients, extending product stability. In textile processing, it controls metal ion interference during dyeing to improve colour consistency.

Dipotassium EDTA is supplied in technical and cosmetic-grade forms and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. It is not assigned an E-number. Procurement teams should confirm grade specifications against relevant pharmacopoeial or industry standards prior to sourcing.
