Description

Dipropylene glycol (DPG) is a low-volatility diol belonging to the glycol ether family, produced as a co-product of propylene oxide hydration. It is also known commercially as 2,2'-oxydipropanol and 1,1'-oxybis(2-propanol), and carries CAS number 108-61-2. No E-code designation applies to this substance.

In personal care formulations, DPG functions as a solvent and carrier for fragrance compounds, improving dispersion and skin feel without accelerating evaporation. In polyurethane production, it acts as a chain extender and plasticizer, reacting with isocyanates to modify flexibility and mechanical properties. Textile and leather processors use it as a lubricating agent to reduce fiber friction during processing.

DPG is available in industrial and cosmetic-grade forms, with high-purity grades meeting Ph.Eur. and FCC specifications for pharmaceutical and food-contact applications. The substance is registered under REACH and fully compliant with EU chemical regulations. Standard packaging includes IBC containers and bulk tanker deliveries for industrial procurement.
