Description

Disodium hydrogen phosphate (Na2HPO4, CAS 7558-79-4) is an inorganic phosphate salt also known as disodium phosphate, soda phosphate, and E339ii. It is the disodium form of phosphoric acid and carries EC number 231-448-7.

In food and beverage manufacturing, Na2HPO4 acts as a buffering agent by donating or accepting protons to stabilise pH in processed cheeses, dairy products, and emulsified sauces. In water treatment, it sequesters calcium and magnesium ions through chelation, preventing scale formation in boilers and distribution pipework. Pharmaceutical formulators use it to maintain precise pH in parenteral solutions and topical preparations.

Disodium hydrogen phosphate is available in food-grade (E339ii, FCC), pharmaceutical-grade (Ph.Eur.), and technical-grade forms as a white granular powder. It is compliant with REACH regulations and supplied across Europe in 25 kg bags and bulk quantities. Relevant HS code for import and export classification is 28352200.
