Description

Disodium N-(2-hydroxyethyl)iminodiacetate, commonly abbreviated as HEIDA-2Na and known under trade names including Hampshire EDG and XUS 40855.01, is a sodium salt chelating agent registered under CAS 135-37-5 and EC 205-187-4. It belongs to the aminopolycarboxylate family and carries no assigned E-code.

In water treatment, HEIDA-2Na sequesters calcium, magnesium, and heavy metal ions by forming stable coordination complexes, preventing scale deposition in cooling and boiler systems. In personal care formulations, it deactivates trace metal ions that would otherwise catalyse oxidative degradation of active ingredients, extending product stability without contributing to rinse-off toxicity concerns.

HEIDA-2Na is supplied as an aqueous solution and falls under REACH registration requirements for European market supply. Procurement teams should confirm grade specifications and concentration with the supplier, as industrial and personal care grades may differ in purity thresholds and documentation requirements.
