Description

Disodium phosphate heptahydrate (DSP heptahydrate, CAS 7782-85-6) is the hydrated disodium salt of phosphoric acid, containing seven molecules of water of crystallisation. It carries no E-number designation and is commercially identified by the abbreviation DSP heptahydrate across food, pharmaceutical, and industrial supply chains.

In water treatment, DSP heptahydrate raises and stabilises pH by releasing phosphate ions that neutralise acidity and sequester scale-forming calcium and magnesium ions. In processed food and dairy manufacturing, it functions as an emulsifying salt, disrupting casein protein networks to produce uniform, stable textures in processed cheese and cream-based products.

DSP heptahydrate is available in food-grade and technical-grade forms, with food applications supported by FCC compliance and pharmaceutical use governed by Ph.Eur. monograph standards. The product falls under REACH regulation (EC 616-512-8) and is classified under HS code 28352990. Packaging typically includes 25 kg bags and bulk formats.
