Description

DL-Lactic acid (CAS 598-82-3) is the racemic form of lactic acid, a naturally occurring organic acid also known commercially as Milk acid and Biolac, and referenced under FEMA 2611. Unlike the L-form, it contains equal proportions of both optical isomers, making it suitable for applications where stereochemistry is not a limiting factor.

In food processing, DL-Lactic acid lowers pH to inhibit microbial growth in fermented products and cured meats, acting as both a preservative and acidulant. In personal care formulations, it functions as a skin conditioner and pH buffer, supporting the acid mantle of the skin. It also serves as a reducing agent in pharmaceutical and industrial processes.

DL-Lactic acid is available in aqueous solution at concentrations typically ranging from 80 to 90%. It is supplied under REACH registration and can meet FCC and Ph.Eur. grade specifications depending on the batch. Standard packaging includes drums and IBC containers.
