Description

DL-Malic acid (CAS 617-48-1) is the racemic form of malic acid, a naturally occurring organic acid found in fruits. It is also referred to as DL-Apple Acid, Pomalus Acid, and DL(+/-)-Malic Acid. Unlike the L-form, the DL racemic mixture is produced synthetically via hydration of maleic anhydride.

In food and beverage formulations, DL-Malic acid delivers a smooth, tart acidulant profile and buffers pH in the range of 2.5 to 3.5, making it effective in confectionery, soft drinks, and fruit preparations. In personal care, it functions as a pH adjuster and skin conditioner by promoting mild exfoliation through keratin interaction. Pharmaceutical applications exploit its buffering capacity in oral solid dosage forms.

DL-Malic acid is available in food-grade and pharmaceutical-grade forms, meeting FCC and Ph.Eur. specifications where applicable. It is subject to REACH registration and handled under standard EU chemical compliance frameworks. Typical packaging includes 25 kg bags.
