Description

DL-Methionine (CAS 59-51-8) is a synthetic racemic amino acid also known by trade names Dyprin, Cynaron, Meonine, and Lobamine, abbreviated as Met. It does not carry an E-number designation. As a sulfur-containing amino acid, it serves as a direct source of reactive thiol groups in biological and formulation systems.

In personal care, DL-Methionine functions as a hair and skin conditioner by donating sulfur to keratin structures, improving tensile strength and moisture retention. In food and pharmaceutical applications, it acts as an antioxidant by scavenging free radicals and as a pH buffer, stabilising formulations within a defined acid range. It is also incorporated into animal feed as a limiting amino acid supplement.

DL-Methionine is available in feed, food, and pharmaceutical grades, with the pharmaceutical grade conforming to Ph.Eur. and USP monographs. It is supplied as a white crystalline powder and is registered under REACH. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags and fibre drums.
