Description

DL-Panthenol (CAS 16485-10-2), also known as DL-Pantothenol or (+/-)-Panthenol, is the racemic alcohol analogue of pantothenic acid (vitamin B5). It carries no assigned E-code and is classified under HS code 29362400. Both enantiomers are present in equal proportion, distinguishing it from the D-form used in most cosmetic applications.

In personal care formulations, DL-Panthenol penetrates the hair cortex and converts to pantothenic acid, improving tensile strength and moisture retention. In polymer processing, it functions as a heat stabilizer and crosslinker, forming covalent bonds within polymer matrices to improve thermal resistance. Pharmaceutical applications exploit its skin-conditioning and barrier-repair properties in topical preparations.

DL-Panthenol is supplied in compliance with REACH regulations and is available in cosmetic and pharmaceutical grades meeting Ph.Eur. and FCC standards. It is typically offered in solid or liquid form, packaged in drums or fiber containers suited to industrial procurement volumes.
