Description

DL-Tartaric acid (CAS 133-37-9) is the racemic form of tartaric acid, also known as racemic acid or uvic acid. It is a naturally occurring organic acid produced synthetically as the racemate of its L- and D- enantiomers. Unlike L-tartaric acid, it carries no E-number designation for food use in the EU.

In pharmaceutical manufacturing, DL-tartaric acid functions as a buffering agent and pH regulator in oral formulations, controlling acidity through its two carboxylic groups. In personal care, it acts as a skin conditioner and protectant by chelating metal ions and stabilizing emulsion systems. It also serves as a heat stabilizer in polymer processing applications.

DL-Tartaric acid is available in technical and pharmaceutical grades, with the latter conforming to Ph.Eur. and USP-NF monographs. It is fully REACH-registered for supply within the EU. Standard packaging includes 25 kg bags, with bulk options available on request.
