Description
Drometrizole (CAS 2440-22-4) is a benzotriazole-class UV absorber commercially known as UV-P, Tinuvin P, and Benazol P. It selectively absorbs ultraviolet radiation in the 300–385 nm range, converting it to harmless heat through an intramolecular proton transfer mechanism.
In polymer and coatings formulations, drometrizole is incorporated to prevent photodegradation of the substrate, extending service life in outdoor-exposed plastics, lacquers, and adhesives. In personal care applications, it protects formulation integrity and active ingredients from UV-induced breakdown, functioning as both a UV filter and a stabilizer for fragrance components.
Drometrizole is supplied as a solid and is subject to REACH registration requirements within the EU. It appears on the EU cosmetic ingredient inventory and is subject to concentration restrictions in leave-on and rinse-off personal care products under EU Cosmetics Regulation 1223/2009.
